I. Anonymous Use vs. Account Use
The application can always be used anonymously — without an account. No personal information is ever collected from anonymous users. However, anonymous users have access to a limited set of features. The following features are available only to users who create an account:
- Changing the application theme and color scheme

- Viewing illustrative images for dictionary entries
- Accessing synonyms, opposites, and idioms for entries
- Other extended features that may be added in the future
The core dictionary — looking up English and Kirundi words with their definitions and phonetics — is and will always remain free and available to anonymous users.
II. What is Collected (Only If You Sign Up)
When and only when an account is created, the following information is collected:
III. Why This Information is Collected
Collected information serves two purposes only:
- Authentication — verifying that a returning user is who they claim to be.
- Password recovery — allowing a user to regain access if they forget their password.
No information is used for advertising, profiling, marketing, or analytics. None is sold or shared with third parties for commercial purposes.
IV. Where Information is Stored
When provided, account information is stored on Supabase — a third-party authentication and database service trusted for its strong privacy and security practices. Supabase processes this information solely on behalf of the dictionary, under their own privacy commitments.
Supabase is the only third party that ever receives any of this data. Their privacy policy applies to how they protect and process it on our behalf.
V. What is Never Collected
The following are never collected, accessed, or transmitted by this application:
- Browsing history or in-app activity logs
- Location, contacts, photos, or device identifiers
- Words you look up in the dictionary
- Payment information — the application is and will always remain free
VI. User Rights
Anyone with an account has the right to:
- Access the personal information stored about them
- Correct or update their email or username
- Change their password at any time
- Delete their account and all associated data permanently

All of the above rights can be exercised directly from within the application — no email request is required.
VII. Use by Children
The dictionary is freely available to learners of every age. Children may use the application without an account at any time. If account creation is offered to a minor, parents and guardians are encouraged to assist or create the account on their behalf.
VIII. Changes to This Policy
